The California Man Tele
I am selling a custom Thinline Tele "partscaster" build that I recently finished. A very unique axe, I finished it with a vinegar/steel wool pickle treatment, butcher block top coat, on both the body and the maple neck. No paint, no poly, no clear coat, which IMO contributes to a warm and open, natural tone. The guitar features a Basswood body, with a maple top, and a beautifully grained maple neck ( I rolled the neck edges for smooth playing and installed a graphite nut). This axe is a top loader for the strings, to my ears you get a bit more "spank" that way. I installed klusen style tuners, slotted screws, and I aged the hardware with my wood smoker. I found a GREAT old California license plate and decided that it MUST be a part of the guitar. I also mounted a vintage peso from 1895, ( all the guitars I build have a coin mounted in them). I loaded it with a low output Mighty Mite alnico V in the bridge, ( after hearing folks rave about them, I tried em and they have serious spank to em) and an old neck pickup I had been waiting to mount. The pots are 250k Fender CTS pots, with a .033 tone cap, it has a nice transparent treble roll off that I find more usable than a higher value capacitor. Cloth wiring too! I also bypassed the neck pickup from the tone control, I do this with all my Tele's, as it gives better chime to the neck position.
My goal with these builds is just to create original, "working man" axes with a unique style. No frills, just a good and honest player at a fair price.
I have been playing guitar for almost 30 years, primarily rock, funk and blues. This guitar is great for each, plenty of grit, a good warmer than stock Tele tone, and very cool retro looks. Hit the links if you would like to hear some of my Thinline noise.
